THE YACHT SAIDE

THE YACHT SAIDE

The Melbourne-owned yacht Saide called in at Sydney yesterday, on her way to the home port She has been on a trip up to China and Japan, via the New Hebrides, and back via Manila, the Spice Islands and New Guinea. Her owner, Mr Millar, landed at Yokohama and from there intended to go by mail steamer to San Francisco or Vancouver, across the continent, and on to Liverpool.

A resume of the trip the yacht has made as taken from the logbook, contains tho following data -
Left Sydney on the 4th October, 1891 , arrived at Brisbane on the 6th October, left on tho 12th , arrived at Noumea on the 17th October, left on the 25th for Tanua and cruised through the New Hebrides Group, and thence to Yokohama on the 4th November. Arrived there on the 2nd December, and left for Kobe on the 3rd January, arriving on the 7th. Went from there to Nagasaki by the Inland Sea route arriving on tho 1st February. Thence to Hong Kong on the 3rd February, arriving on the 10th :left for Manila on the 26th February, arriving on the 29th February; called at Celebes on the 14th March. Left on the 16th for Ternate, arriving on the 17th. Went thence to Amboyna, and arrived on the 20th March. Thence to New Guinea on the 22nd March, and on the 27th brought up off the inland. Made a brief stay and proceeded for Thursday Island, thence to Cooktown and Cairns and on to Sydney.

Some very heavy weather was met with during the round voyage on one or two occasions, but taking the six months' trip remarkably fine weather was experienced When nearing Yokohama the yacht was caught in a typhoon and had a very bad time of it, and on the homeward journey she fell in with hard SE gales between Thursday Island and Cooktown. These trying incidents have, however, left no trace of damage on the yacht, and she looks as smart as the day she left Farm Cove. She will remain here for a day or two and then start for Melbourne. At Present she is in Neutral Bay.
